On Sunday 8 and Monday 9 June, our PhD student Alexandre Delangle assisted to the third United Nations Ocean Conference held in Nice and contributed to the inauguration of the Cryosphere pavilion as a member of the Génération Cryosphère program.

Created in 2025, this initiative gathers sixteen PhD students dedicated to the study of cold environments in order to accompany and support their work. Thanks to the support of the Albédo Foundation, the laureates will integrate the One Ocean Expedition co-organized by the University of Norway in August. The 23-day long expedition will take a larger group of early researchers from the UArctic network from Nuuk, Greenland, to Cambridge Bay, Canada, on board the Statsraad Lehmkuhl, one of the largest three-masted training vessels. During the crossing of the Northwest Passage, the laureates will learn navigational techniques and receive multidisciplinary courses.

On Sunday, the Cryosphere pavilion was inaugurated by the President of Tajikistan, Emomali Rahmon, the UNESCO Secretary General, Audrey Azoulay, with an opening quote of Jean Malaurie, and the President of France, Emmanuel Macron, who briefly met with the laureates. On Monday, the pavilion was opened to the public with speeches from philanthropist Frederik Paulsen and the Prince of Monaco, Albert II.
