The Sámi Education Institute and the Malaurie Institute of Arctic Research Monaco-UVSQ (MIARC) organised an international workshop entitled “Reindeer stories” in Inari, August 20, 2023, within the framework of UArctic’s thematic network ARCH (Arctic Cultures and History).

The network was notably represented by UArctic Chair in Arctic Humanities Prof. Jan Borm who co-organised the event and Prof. John Burnside from the University of Saint-Andrews. Other participants included well-known Sámi representatives Pekka Aikio and Henrik Sevä, and two other representatives from UVSQ, President Alain Bui and Junior Full Professor Joanna Kodzik, as well as four representatives from Sámi Education Institute, Mika Aromäki, Janne Näkkäläjärvi, Marina Falevitch and Arto Saijets, who were hosting the event. The purpose of the workshop consisted in staging an open dialogue about the history of and present issues in Sápmi. More meetings and joint actions are planned.
