Discover Paul Gaimard's polar expeditions with Árni Snævarr and Jan Borm at the Alliance Française in Reykjavík on 9 March 2023.
Although Paul Gaimard (1793-1858) is quite unknown in France, his own country, he is well-known in Iceland. One of Iceland's most famous poems, 'To Monsieur Páll Gaimard', was written in his honour by Jónas Hallgrímsson. However, Icelanders knew very little about him until his biography was published in 2019.
This special event (in French) organised by the Alliance Française in Reykjavík will provide an opportunity to learn more about Paul Gaimard and the French-Icelandic relations in the 19th century.
