Pigga Keskitalo, Full Professor of education at the University of Lapland in Rovaniemi (Finland) and the Sámi University of Applied Sciences in Kautokeino (Norway) and adjunct Professor at the University of Helsinki will inaugurate the Jean Malaurie guest lecture series at MIARC on 12 December 2024.

The living conditions in the Arctic region especially long distances, varying conditions due to climate change and the special nature of the region require educational offers which are the basis of good conditions for children, young people, families and all people in the Arctic. In her lecture, Prof. Keskitalo will give an insight into the dynamic changes in Sápmi and the need for inclusive thinking, as well as the importance of understanding the meaning of time and place in teachers training and providing education for children and young people.

Pigga Keskitalo is Full Professor in Arctic perspectives in education at the University of Lapland in Rovaniemi (Finland) as well as the Sámi University of Applied Sciences in Kautokeino (Norway) and adjunct Professor at the University of Helsinki. In her career, Keskitalo has focused on the themes of Sámi education and training, as well as the development of digital pedagogical practices in distance learning and teaching. She has been involved in a number of capacity-building projects in the field of education at international level, as well as projects promoting language- and culture-conscious teaching and teacher training. She has been acting as a specialist for the Sámi Parliament in curriculum matters. Pigga Keskitalo was born in Utsjoki, Sápmi - the northernmost municipality in Finland.

The guest lecture will be given at UVSQ’s D’Alembert building, Thursday, December 12, 2025, 10:00am-12:30pm, 11 boulevard d'Alembert, 78280 Guyancourt (France).
