MIARC has organised an Erasmus+ BIP (Blended Intensive Programme): Knowledge from the Arctic in past and present - collecting and (co)-constructing cultural continuity and change in Versailles/ Paris, June 23-27, 2025.

Students and teachers from France, Finland, Estonia, Poland, Austria, Germany and Denmark met together to learn more about the circulation of knowledge between Europe and the Arctic and current challenges in conducting respectful cooperation with Indigenous people in the Arctic.

The programme was aimed at young researchers (Master and PhD) who study (or plan to study) issues in Arctic Studies, especially circulation of knowledge about the Arctic between Europe and the Arctic and would like to deepen their skills in using modern technologies in knowledge production and transfer for their studies. The course was primarily intended to increase knowledge about historical sources and collections of Arctic objects in France and other European countries. The main focus was therefore on themes that either link the Arctic and Europe in a specific way or have led to the development of particular traditions one needs to be aware of in order to conduct successful research.

During our time in Versailles we worked with archival and museum collections and visited the most important places to study knowledge about the Arctic in Paris and Versailles.
