The 11th workshop of the Franco-German series "Gateway to the Arctic" was held at the research station "Schneefernerhaus", close to the summit of the Zugspitze, Germany's highest mountain, September 9 through 11.

Funded by the Franco-German university in Saarbruck, it was co-organised, like all previous editions, by Malaurie Institute of Arctic Research Monaco-UVSQ and the German Polar Institute Alfred Wegener (AWI).This year's workshop was dedicated to the theme of "Melting Glaciers in a Changing World".

More than 20 early stage researchers and master students from a number of French and German Higher Education institutions participated in the event featuring several guest lectures from Estonia, France and Germany providing both natural science and Humanities perspectives on the subject. Students and researchers participating to the seminars are issued from various disciplines like biochemistry, literature, atmospheric sciences, political science, glaciology, or history, to name just a few.
