Jean-Michel Huctin is associate professor of anthropology at the University of Versailles St-Quentin-en-Yvelines (UVSQ) / Paris-Saclay in France. Founding member of the research center CEARC ("Cultures, Environments, Arctic, Representations, Climate"), he is also an associated member of the research centers MIARC (Malaurie Institute of Arctic Research, UVSQ) and CARE (Center for Children & Adolescent Research Environment at the University of Greenland).
His research has initially focused on child abuse, education, social work and the resilience of young people in care in Greenland (PhD thesis, 2016). It has expanded to include Inuit community adaptation to environmental change through involvement in research projects such as ARTisticc (2014-2018, Belmont Forum), SeMPER (2019-2024, Belmont Forum) and PREFER (2024, ERC). He also co-coordinated the InterArctic project (2018-2023, ANR), which experimented with a knowledge co-production approach involving Inuit elders, students and teachers in Greenland and Nunavik. One of the editors of the international collective volume Groenland. Climat, Ecologie, Société (2016), he also participated in the French publication of 4 important novels of Greenlandic literature. He is co-writer and co-producer of "Inuk" (2012), the 25 award-winning feature film about present-day Greenland.
Jean-Michel Huctin worked for many years with Jean Malaurie at the Centre d'Etudes Arctiques (École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales, France), including organising numerous Inuit delegations to conferences and events, his last travel to Greenland with the Prince of Monaco in 2009, and writing the afterword to his penultimate book, Lettre à un Inuit de 2022 (Fayard).
