Gateway to the Arctic
The Franco-German workshop series “Gateway to the Arctic” is an interdisciplinary forum for encounters of master students and early-stage researchers from different disciplines of the natural sciences and the Humanities who share interest in the circumpolar Arctic regions.
The workshops which have been organized since the early 2010s by Jan Borm (MIARC/UVSQ/UParis-Saclay), Klaus Grosfeld (Reklim/AWI) and Renate Treffeisen (AWI) provide multiple opportunities for intensive exchange about Arctic research issues thanks to lectures, seminars and joint activities. The multidisciplinary approach facilitates networking among participating students, scientists and institutions which have led to a number of new cooperation projects including the Franco-German Graduate School “Perceiving Arctic Change”. The co-organising insitutions are complementary in terms of approach, AWI dedicating its research to polar natural science and oceanography, UVSQ/Paris-Saclay represented by MIARC focusing both on environment science and the Humanities. One of the principle goals of these workshops consists in fostering new interdisciplinary cooperation on projects about climate change and its multiple impacts.
